Hopes for People I Care About
I hope that more of the things that make life bearable will come to you. My experience is that living longer doesn’t make this happen automatically, but every day opens up more chances.
I hope that frustration provides clues for the things that ignite your passion. I hope that sorrow reveals the presence of love. I hope that passion and love lead you to a sense of abundant life.
I hope that your days are poems—not all happy poems, not even all good poems. Maybe they won’t form a tidy arc like a novel or an instruction manual. I hope, when you look back on your poems, you can be gentle with yourself and that you can find the gems of imagery and meter that were invisible to you at the time.
I hope you will find reminders that you are a beautiful, precious creature of worth. Thank you for blessing me with your friendship.
