23 December 11

I am tremendously grateful that the day when I was so sick I could barely get out of bed was also a day when there were two other parents available to care for children, when I didn’t have to go to work or to class, and when all of our utilities (heat, running water) were functioning. As Ackb mentioned, we postponed the Solstice breakfast. I was able to be upright long enough last night to light the menorah. By bedtime, I managed a cup of diluted juice and some jell-o.

Today! Today I got up just before dawn and enjoyed drinking a cup of green tea (and keeping it down) while the sun rose. Then I enjoyed having enough strength to lift up babies and begin the day with them. Then I enjoyed Ondiru entertaining them by narrating his pancake cooking process. And we ate! Cakes! Of! Pan!

After breakfast, we went outside to greet the (sort of) Solstice sun. The kids thought that the most appropriate addition to this ritual was to search for perfectly round rocks.

I am hopeful that the afternoon will contain yet more reasons to be grateful.
