Dinosaur Color Blog Round-Up
I was distracted earlier this week, so I didn’t get a chance to jump in when the dinosaur color story broke. Now that I’ve had a chance to read the different treatments of this story, I thought I’d make it up to you by offering a comparison of reports.
Of the Tumblr posts I saw about this story, most linked to the New York Times. The NYT opened with an unqualified statement that...
The Snow Thickens
We looked at the weather map this morning and noticed that the highway south to my cousin’s house, what would normally be a two hour drive, went directly through the heart of the falling snow. Accumulation was predicted to be pretty mild. The snow hadn’t arrived yet in Baltimore. Still, it was a long enough trip to seem like a gamble. I called and canceled my RSVP to my cousin’s...
Ask Apatosaurus
Although I doubt anyone’s been dying to ask me questions, I thought it was only fair to enable the “ask” feature since I’ve used it on other Tumblrs.
So … the floor is open. Questions? Comments? Thoughts?

Study Offers Insight Into the Color of Dinosaurs -... →
tylercoates:
“We might be able to start painting a picture in color of what these things looked like,” said Lawrence M. Witmer, a paleontologist at Ohio University, who was not involved in the study.
Of course, such pictures have been painted many times, but the colors were products of a painter’s imagination, not a scientist’s laboratory.
When I was in second grade my teacher yelled at me...

Housekeeping
Now that the semester has started, I’ve realized that I need to cut back on Tumblr time. I’m here for friendly conversations, so I kept that in mind as I decided which Tumblrs to unfollow. I unfollowed some great writers and photographers, which was difficult, but choices had to be made. I’ve enjoyed reading everybody, and I’m sorry that I couldn’t keep up.

Trust Women
“Trust Women” is the theme for NARAL Pro-Choice America’s Blog for Choice Day. The theme is in honor of the late Dr. George Tiller, who wore a button that said, “Trust Women.” Today is also the 37th anniversary of Roe V. Wade. Obviously, “trust women” means I believe that women should be the decision-makers when it comes to their own health and well-being....

these hips are big hips. they need space to move around in. they don’t fit into little petty places. these hips are free hips. they don’t like to be held back. these hips have never been enslaved, they go where they want to go they do what they want to do. these hips are mighty hips. these hips are magic hips. i have known them to put a spell on a man and spin him like a top

New Dino Time?
I like having a dinosaur-themed tumblr, but maybe I should yield the Apatosaur/Apatosaurus name space to the person who was here first.
What dinosaur should I use instead? Brachiosaurus and Diplodocus are taken. Astrodon (the state dinosaur of Maryland) looks good. Magyarosaurus might work, but I don’t think I know Hungarian well enough to pull that off.
Among non-sauropods, Ankylosaurus...
